The 1961 Goldsboro B-52 crash: A United States Air Force Boeing B-52G Stratofortress carrying two Mark 39 thermonuclear bombs breaks up in mid-air over Greensboro, North Carolina, and crashes, killing three of its eight-man crew. The bombs do not arm themselves and are recovered. - 24th January 1961
